Water Treatment Chemicals Crystalline Aluminum Chloride

Water Treatment Chemicals Crystalline Aluminum Chloride

1. traits

Crystalline aluminum chloride is also known as aluminum trichloride hexahydrate and aluminum chloride hexahydrate. The molecular formula is AlCl?·6H?O, and the relative molecular mass is 241.5. The pure product of crystalline aluminum chloride is colorless crystal, and the industrial product is dark yellow or light yellow. Its density is 2.389g/cm3. Soluble in water, also soluble in ethanol, ether and glycerin, while releasing a lot of heat; the aqueous solution is acidic; the solubility in water increases with the rise of water temperature. It is very hygroscopic and easily deliquesces in humid air and produces white hydrogen chloride (HCl) fumes. It will decompose when heated to 100°C and generate HCl gas.

2. Mechanism of action

The mechanism of action is the same as that of aluminum sulfate.

3. Application

Crystalline aluminum chloride can be used as a flocculant, mainly used for the flocculation purification treatment of industrial raw water and drinking water, and also for the defluorination of high fluorine water and the treatment of oily sewage. Its treatment effect on low-temperature low-turbidity water and high-turbidity water is general, and the pH value has a great influence on the treatment effect during the flocculation process. Crystalline Aluminum Chloride is also used to treat latex, acrylic paint and oil emulsions, dyes, clay suspensions and waste water from the digestion of sanitary system waste. It can also be used in precision casting, wood preservation, paper industry, printing and dyeing, medicine and other industries.

4. How to use

When crystalline aluminum chloride is used as a flocculant, according to the properties of the water to be treated, such as impurity type, turbidity, pH, water temperature and other factors, water samples are taken for dosing test. When used, it needs to be made into a 5%-10% solution before adding. Generally, the effective dosage is 20-60 mg/L. It can be used with lime and other flocculants if necessary.

5. Precautions

AlCl? can interfere with the phosphorylation process of the human body, and excessive ingestion by the human body can easily cause acute poisoning. Since AlCl? is easy to deliquesce in humid air and release hydrogen chloride mist, it should be sealed and stored to prevent moisture.
