Water Treatment Chemical Calcium Hypochlorite

Water Treatment Chemical Calcium Hypochlorite

1. Characteristics

Calcium hypochlorite, also known as bleaching spirit, has a chemical formula of Ca(ClO)?, a relative molecular mass of 142.99, and a melting point of 100°C. It appears as white powder and has a strong chlorine smell. The solution is a yellow-green translucent liquid. Because calcium hypochlorite is a strong oxidant and is extremely harmful to humans, it must not be used for other purposes outside of industry. You must also pay attention to your own protection when using it to avoid corrosion.

2. Mechanism of action

After calcium hypochlorite absorbs water and CO?, it decomposes into hypochlorous acid and Cl?, and the hypochlorous acid decomposes again to generate HCl and new ecological oxygen. New ecological oxygen has strong oxidizing properties and has the ability to disinfect, sterilize and kill algae.

3. Purpose

Calcium hypochlorite is mainly used for bleaching pulp in the paper industry and bleaching cotton, linen, silk and fiber fabrics in the textile industry. It can also be used as wool anti-shrinkage agent, deodorant, etc.; in the chemical industry, it is used for acetylene purification, chloroform and other Manufacturing of organic chemical raw materials.

When calcium hypochlorite is used as a water treatment agent, it is firstly used for disinfection and sterilization of domestic drinking water; secondly, it is used for industrial circulating cooling water treatment; thirdly, it is used for purification of sewage and wastewater deodorization and chloride removal; Fourth, it is used for disinfection of swimming pool water and pond water.

4. How to use

Calcium hypochlorite mostly exists as ClO under higher pH conditions and has a poor bactericidal effect. However, when it exists as HCIO under lower pH conditions, it has a good bactericidal effect. Therefore, the pH value can be controlled without causing a negative impact on the system. Less than 6.0, the best effect is to kill microorganisms. When treating hard water, calcium hypochlorite should be formulated into a solution with an effective chlorine concentration of 1% to 2% to avoid precipitation as much as possible. When used for wastewater treatment (such as cyanide-containing wastewater), the dosage of calcium hypochlorite is generally calculated based on available chlorine. The mass ratio of available chlorine and cyanide in wastewater required to achieve complete oxidation is: Cl?:CN=7.5:1 .

5. Precautions

The dust of this product is irritating to the conjunctiva and respiratory tract, and can also cause tooth damage; skin contact can cause moderate to severe skin damage. This product is flammable and irritating. It should be sealed and ventilated during operation. Operators must receive special training and strictly abide by operating procedures.

It is recommended that operators wear hood-type electric air-supply filtering dust-proof respirators, tape protective clothing, and neoprene gloves. Keep away from fire and heat sources. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Keep away from flammable and combustible materials. Avoid contact with dust, reducing agents, and acids. When transporting, load and unload with care to prevent vibration, impact and friction.
